End of days

These end of days paintings are made at the end of a painting session using whatever paint is left on my palette and no more. The image subject is spontaneous and frequently thematically linked to whatever else I am working on. But sometimes it is just a found object or an image I find interesting. The end of day paintings sometimes feed back into my larger scale work, but not always. End of days paintings can be painted in a single session or they can be built up using several lots of leftover paint.

These little paintings have a freedom in them, being the last thing I do and normally when I’m thinking about something else. The relationship between this freedom and the limitation imposed by the leftover palette is an important part of my ongoing conversation with material and subject.
